CAT Exam Day Guidelines

The CAT 2024 exam will be held at designated centers across India. Candidates must strictly follow the instructions mentioned on the admit card to ensure a smooth experience. Below are the important exam day guidelines, required documents, and prohibited items at the test center:

Documents to Carry:

1. CAT Admit Card 2024:

   • Carry two printouts of your admit card with your photograph affixed (preferably the same photo as uploaded in the application).

2. Photo Identity Proof:

   • Accepted IDs include College ID (supported by a valid debit/credit card), Employer ID, Driving License, Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, or Aadhaar Card.

     
     

3. Name Change Document:

   • If your name has changed and is not reflected on your photo ID, carry a name change certificate/document.

     
     

4. PwD/Scribe Certificate (if applicable):

   • PwD candidates must bring their disability certificate.

   • Those requiring a scribe should also carry the scribe certificate attested by the appropriate authority.

     
     

Items Not Allowed Inside the Exam Hall:

To ensure a fair and secure exam, the following items are strictly prohibited:

• Electronic Devices: Calculators, watches, phones, iPads, or other gadgets.

• Personal Belongings: Bags, purses, jackets, or clothing with pockets.

• Food and Drinks: Eatables and beverages.

• Accessories: Jewelry or metal-containing items.

• Footwear: Closed shoes are not permitted.

Q: Can I present a digital copy of the CAT admit card at the exam center?

A:

No, a digital copy of the CAT 2024 admit card will not be accepted at the test center. As per official guidelines, only a color printout of the admit card on an A4-sized sheet is considered valid for entry. Candidates must also attach a passport-sized photograph to the admit card, preferably the same as the one uploaded in the CAT application form.

The reason digital copies are not accepted is that the admit card must be signed and stamped by the test center staff as proof of attendance. Additionally, one printed copy of the admit card is retained by the authorities, making it essential for candidates to carry a physical printout.

Q: Can I get admission to IIM without taking CAT?

No, admission to IIMs is not possible without appearing for the CAT. For instance, candidates aspiring to join the MBA program at IIM Ahmedabad must take the CAT and achieve at least a 90 percentile. Along with the CAT score, the final selection process also includes the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

To secure admission, candidates must meet both the overall and sectional CAT cutoff percentiles. These cutoffs are not publicly disclosed but are made available to candidates through their login accounts after the exam.

Q: What CAT score is required for MBA admission at IIM Ahmedabad?

IIM Ahmedabad evaluates candidates based on two types of CAT scores during the MBA admission process: the Qualifying Score and the Final Score.

• Qualifying Score: This is the minimum sectional and overall CAT score required to shortlist candidates for the Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. To progress to this stage, candidates must meet or exceed the sectional and overall cutoffs and have a positive raw score (greater than zero) in all sections of the CAT.
